Camp Savoy Cake Stall 2011!

So, last weekend I was at a camp called Camp Savoy. My parents are part of the organisation team there. It is a dance camp for Lindy Hoppers, based at the Surrey Uni, with many many wonderful teachers and an amazing cabaret there too.  This year I decided to run a cake stall there.

My and my "sister" ( read my 'about me' to understand the inverted commas!) started work the sunday before last. Gradually her, her boyfriend, and I baked our way through 13 different recipes and batches of cakes. Of course after that tiring and hard work, by 8 O'clock my dad and mum made a superb BBQ, of which we tucked into greedily. END OF BAKE-A-THON DAY 1!

The following tuesday, they both returned, all of us eager to continue with our work. We finished off the final 6 recipes (of course- one batch for us!) and then bundled them all in the freezer. We couldn't ice the cakes there and then- as they weren't being eaten till the saturday- so we prepared a few decorations instead. Of course our reward- A water fight! Me, Hannah (sister!) and Stu (sisters bf!) had so much fun chucking cold water at each other :P But it was soo hot we didn't mind! Another BBQ with them, 2 french friends who were staying with us till the camp, an American dance teacher Micheal, and the Camp Savoy hostess Jenny! END OF BAKE-A-THON DAY 2!

Friday was a day of transporting the cakes- ensuring they were all OK etc. Not much on cake front- but It was also the first day of the camp.

SATURDAY! The day of the stall. After going to bed rather late (around 2:30/3am) and then getting up quite early (around 7:15) me, Hannah, and the fabulous Lana(Dancer and gorgeous friend!) spent the morning icing all the cakes. It was most entertaining! After some disasters (e.g me forgetting the cocoa powder so us having to improvise with Nutella! NB. Don't try this...It doesn't work well!) but many success's I called my dad and he drove me up to the main hall, where just half an hour before we had sent Hannah and a friend of mine Louise to start setting up the stall. So, with Lana bravely clearing up the mess on her own, My dad and I travelled up to the main hall and delivered the cakes.

Throughout that day we stayed at the stall, selling cakes and juice to the dancers who came by, hungry after a Jazz class or a "Spins and turns class" with the teachers. The money made was used to pay for the expensieve ingredients, a bit to a very special charity, and of course a bit to me and Han for all our hard work :D

It was a success!

The cakes made and 2/3 one word comments;
The Birthday Cake- yummy, sweet, pretty.
Choco Chip Cupcakes- delicious, melt-in-the-mouth, chocolaty
Orange Squash Cupcakes- look good, smell good, taste good
Peach(but I used banana instead) and poppy seed muffins- moist, energising, good for breaky
Light Chocolate Cake- light, messy, classic
Sunken Apricot and Almond Cake- UNBELIEVABLE, amazing, heavenly
Almond Honey Cake with Apricots and Vanilla- deserves a medal, sweet-yet-not-too-sweet, ummm
Port Mary Scones- nice, but not my favourite
Lemon, Sunflower seed and Blueberry Muffins- A bit dry, sweet, give loads of slow releasing energy
Lavender Cupcakes- smell heavenly, although a bit dry, a bit too sweet (add less sugar)
Rosewater fairy Cakes- a favorite!
Parmesan and Paprika Scones- Smelt nice, tasted good
Cappuccino Cupcakes- Light, coffeey!
American Vanilla (we tried almond) Cupcakes- A bit too almondy, Nice though
White rabbits- cute, very very light, yumm

All the cakes in Harry's book are made with different vegetables to replace adding fat. E.g the Birthday Cake contains courgette, or the Almond Honey Cake with Apricots and Vanilla contains Sweet Potato. Genius me thinks, plus they taste so good!

Much Love
The Tiny Baker :)

This post is dedicated to Hannah- your the best!! Love you lots :D
